Sr. Susan Francois, CSJP
Sr. Susan Rose Francois, CSJP, has been serving on the Congregation Leadership Team of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace since 2015, where she holds the roles of Assistant Congregation Leader and Congregation Treasurer. Her leadership is marked by a commitment to justice, peace, and the transformative power of community.
A gifted writer and speaker, Sr. Susan shares her insights on religious life and social justice through her personal blog, At the Corner of Susan and St. Joseph, and as a regular contributor to Global Sisters Report, a project of the National Catholic Reporter. She is one of the authors of In Our Own Words: Religious Life in a Changing World (Liturgical Press, 2018) and the author of My Friend Joe: Reflections on St. Joseph (Kenmare Press, 2021), published during the Year of St. Joseph. Her work consistently explores the intersection of faith, ethics, and justice.
Sr. Susan earned her Master of Arts in Theological Ethics and Spirituality from Catholic Theological Union, where she was a Bernardin Scholar. Her thesis focused on the ethics of resistance to social sin, reflecting her lifelong passion for advocacy and systemic change. Before entering religious life in 2006, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Lewis and Clark College and worked as the City Elections Officer for Portland, Oregon.
She has also contributed her expertise to the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center (2008–2012), working as a justice educator and advocate on issues such as human trafficking, immigration, care of creation, and nonviolence.
Sr. Susan’s ministry is a testament to her unwavering dedication to peace, justice, and the Gospel values that guide her life and work.
