Peace Across Divides: Love in Action

One woman. One response to suffering. Nearly three decades of love in action.

Just days after the International Day of Peace, join us for a special evening with Sr. Lucy Kurien, founder and director of Maher (“Mother’s Home”) in India, for a conversation about what peace can look like when it moves beyond an ideal and becomes a way of living.

In 1997, after witnessing the devastating consequences of domestic violence, Sr. Lucy responded by creating a single home for women in crisis. That beginning grew into Maher, an interfaith and caste-free community that today serves thousands of women, children, and men through homes and outreach programs across India.

Through stories from nearly three decades of this work, Sr. Lucy will explore how compassion, human dignity, interfaith friendship, and care for those who are vulnerable can help bridge the divisions that so often separate us. Her message is wonderfully simple: “Love is my Religion.”

As we continue the spirit of the International Day of Peace, this evening invites us to consider not only what peace means, but what it asks of us—and how each of us can create our own small ripple of love in the communities we call home.
